All-on-4® for Teeth-in-a-Day

The advanced All-on-4 technique allows patients to immediately receive dentures for their dental implants. In one appointment, Dr. Ron Shiver can surgically embed four implants into the jaw and attach a full dental arch. This single-visit approach to implants is much more convenient than traditional implant treatment, which requires at least four to six months between surgery and restoration. Dr. Shiver is proud to provide the innovative All-on-4 therapy at his office iValdosta, GAto quickly restore oral function and aesthetic.

Demonstration of how a denture is fixed onto implants in the jaw. All-on-4 implants are anchored into the jaw with four metal posts, inserted at angles to reduce the amount of bone tissue needed to hold them in place.

The All-on-4 Difference

The All-on-4 option offers patients a number of distinct benefits over both traditional dentures and the traditional implant process, including:

  • Significantly reduced treatment timeline

  • Single surgery that minimizes trauma

  • Normal eating and speaking on the same day of the procedure

  • Reduced anxiety about oral health

  • Better fit than offered by traditional dentures

  • Reduced need for preparatory procedures such as bone grafting

  • Long-lasting treatment with a lifespan of decades

  • Halting of the jawbone atrophy that accompanies long-term tooth loss

  • Improved self-confidence and a greater inclination to smile

While All-on-4 treatment is not always right for every patient, it can have a substantial, positive impact on those patients who qualify.

Candidacy for All-on-4

One significant advantage of All-on-4 implants is the need for a reduced amount of jawbone tissue. Where atrophied bone can significantly undermine your jaw's ability to support traditional dental implants, implants for an All-on-4 treatment are inserted at an angle and thus require less bone tissue to anchor themselves. This key difference makes All-on-4 a viable treatment option for many patients with missing teeth.

During your initial consultation with Dr. Shiver, he will review your medical and dental history and examine x-rays of your teeth and adjacent oral anatomy. With this information, he can determine if All-on-4 is the most advantageous therapy or if other treatments, such as dentures, better serve your oral health needs.

The All-on-4 Procedure

On the day of your procedure, Dr. Shiver will first administer an anesthetic to numb the surgical area. Patients may also opt for sedation therapy, particularly if they suffer from dental anxiety.

Once you are comfortable, the doctor can extract teeth in preparation for implant placement, if the teeth in question have not fallen out yet. Next, he will create four small holes in the gums and the jawbone below, through which titanium posts are threaded and secured. Once these are secured, the doctor can attach your previously customized denture. Patients can leave our office with a complete set of stable dentures that will not slip out of place when they chat, dine, or simply enjoy everyday life.

This single-visit approach to implants is much more convenient than traditional implant treatment, which requires at least four to six months between surgery and restoration.

While the All-on-4 technique minimizes trauma to the jaw, most patients will still need a few days off from work to recuperate. Patients may experience some swelling and discomfort, but they can typically control these symptoms with over-the-counter medications. In many cases, patients will receive temporary dentures at the time of surgery and return to our practice about six months later for permanent dentures placement.
