Renew the Look and Function of Your Smile with Dental Implants

Even the loss of a single tooth can compromise the beauty of your smile and lead to oral health concerns over time. Fortunately, dental implants can help to completely restore the aesthetics of your smile and the strength of your bite. Dental implants are small metal posts that are placed in the jaw to provide an unparalleled level of support to crowns, bridges, and dentures. Combining more than three decades of experience with highly specialized training, Dr. Ron Shiver is your choice for a dental implants treatment in the Valdosta, GA, area. Reach out to our practice today to schedule a consultation and learn more.

Who is a Candidate?

No matter if you are missing a single tooth or an entire row, dental implants are widely considered to be the best restorative solution. They are often recommended to patients who have suffered an injury, lost teeth due to gum disease, or have a tooth that failed to respond to root canal treatment and requires extraction.

In order to qualify for a dental implants treatment, you should be in good oral and overall health. Additionally, you must have a sufficient amount of jawbone density to support the embedded posts. We can evaluate your jaw strength by using our advanced in-office computerized tomography (CT) scanner. If we find that insufficient jawbone strength is precluding you from treatment, Dr. Shiver can perform a bone grafting procedure to improve your candidacy.

The Placement Procedure

Doctors at many other practices will refer their patients to an outside surgeon for the placement of dental implants. When you choose Dr. Shiver for a dental implants procedure, he will perform virtually every step of treatment to ensure you receive the highest level of care. On the day of your implants surgery, Dr. Shiver will begin by creating small incisions before placing dental implants directly into your jaw. The number of implants being placed will depend on the type of restoration you will be supporting. If you will be receiving a full-arch implant-supported denture, Dr. Shiver can often secure this restoration with only four dental implants by using the innovative All-on-Four® technique.

Osseointegration and Restoration

After surgery, the implants will be left to heal for four to six months, during which time they will fuse directly with the surrounding bone through a process known as osseointegration. Not only will osseointegration enable your implants to provide unmatched support to your restoration, it will also return stimulation to your jaw and help to halt bone recession. No other restorative treatment can offer this benefit.

We can provide a temporary restoration for you to wear while osseointegration takes place. Once the implants have integrated with your jaw, Dr. Shiver will top them with an abutment, which is a connector that rests above the gum line. During your final visit, we will attach your permanent restoration to instantly restore the strength, function, and beauty of your smile.
